A Teen Sacrifices Her Life To Save Her Friend And Completes Her Bucket List

I came across this story today, and the simplicity behind it broke my heart. This is the story of a 17-year-old girl, Rebecca Townsend from Danbury, Connecticut, USA who died in a road accident after being hit by a car, in an attempt to save her friend. She pushed her friend Ben Arne out of the path of the oncoming car, saving his life, but lost hers.

The most beautiful and equally heartbreaking thing about this incident was, Rebecca completed her bucket list with her sad demise. Her bucket list comprised three wishes: to travel to Spain, to kiss in the rain, and to save a life. Nobody expected the third one to be checked in this way.

Here's Rebecca's wish list, which she prepared as a part of a class assignment:

Ben visited the Townsend family after getting discharged from the hospital. He told them how Rebecca had saved his life by pushing him away from the car without giving a single thought to her life. Rebecca had completed her graduation and was ready to attend Notre Dame University in the fall.

Here's her picture with the admission letter of the university.

When her family found out her secret bucket list, they believed, “It was a little sign that she was OK,”.

The Townsend family has started a Facebook page called ‘Remembering Rebecca’, to spread the message of Rebecca, by helping others selflessly and wholeheartedly. People are coming up with beautiful gestures, like paying for others' coffee, paying for Yoga classes of random people, with the sole intention to “remember Rebecca by going out and doing something that matters”.

May her beautiful soul rest in peace.
