The Beggars of today

I can understand why a handicapped would beg(this is not reason enough as a lot of handicapped persons are doing beautifully well in different chosen fields).

But, maybe some feel a missing arm or some other body part automatically makes them the responsibility of Society, forgetting that a large part of the same Society(with complete everything o) find it difficult to come up with four when they add two and two together.

So, you will understand why I am sufficiently enraged when I see able young men and women begging.

Please, what is their excuse? I mean, why exactly are they begging? Some even wear finer clothes than me and speak flawless English!

No intention of being harsh.

The number of people that sell pure water in Nigeria has increased since the days of Pa OBJ, and all of them makes a profit from a business so common.

Why don't these fine men and women find other creative ways of making money, instead of begging every day of their lives?

Okay, why can't they beg for just enough to start a small business? Nooo! They'll beg till they're richer than those who depend on salaries.

Another set of annoying beggars is those from our backyard, Niger Republic. It's in Benin City I saw them in full glory. Beautiful  children(who should be in school) will almost follow you to your house until you give them something.

Some will wrap themselves so tightly around your leg, that you would be immobilized for a moment.
And if you look closely enough, you'd see their parents seated not too far, eyes intently watching, cheering their little champions to victory over YOUR purse. And yes! They go on and have more unprotected sex, just so they can flood our streets with more children beggars.

I wish we can have a campaign that will admonish people to beg responsibly. A law that prohibits young people with no disability whatsoever from begging.

Even those that are not on the streets, but come in form of neighbors who will beg for your groundnut oil till they see the empty bottle.

Let's start encouraging them to get a job, start a business and get a life!
